Blind Beggar, Jack the Ripper, Jack the Ripper murder sites, Ronnie & Reggie Kray, Siege of Sidney Street, the Krays
Given that 3 of the Jack the Ripper murder sites have recently been destroyed by construction works, we don’t think a walk purely based on Jack the Ripper is any longer do-able.
But one of Jack the Ripper’s murders, a famous Kray killing and the Sidney Street Siege, all, remarkably, took place within a couple of hundred yards of each other. Add another couple of Ripper murder sites, the spot where the Krays were brought up, their school, their boxing club and several of their pubs, and you’ve got yourself a great walk.
And we’re flexible as to the route and what we cover. If you’re more interested in Jack than you are in the Krays, we’ll start at Aldgate East and take in more Ripper history and less of the Twins, or vice versa starting at Shoreditch High Street if you’re more interested in Ronnie & Reggie.
Either way you’ll also see where the amazing Siege of Sidney Street took place, and we’ll also show you where the man most likely to have been Jack the Ripper lived, and how the geography of the killings links in with this.
And for both the Ripper and the Krays we tell you what is fact and what is legend; what stories are real history and what are porkies.
Start Aldgate East underground or Shoreditch High Street overground station
Finish Blind Beggar Pub or Whitechapel underground station
