Beatles and Swinging 60’s Walk

Start St Johns Wood tube station

Finish Piccadilly Circus tube station

We have to start with THAT pedestrian crossing outside Abbey Road studios. And your guide is willing to risk life and limb by holding your camera and standing in the middle of the road to take THAT shot of you doing THAT crossing. Walking barefoot or smoking a cigarette is not compulsory! There’s also a well stocked Beatles memorabilia gift shop next to the crossing which we can pop into for a quick visit if you wish.  Unfortunately the studios are in an otherwise pretty bland part of London so we then jump on a tube to get to the heart of what was the Swinging 60’s London scene – Soho. Here we see “guitar street,” where the Stones recorded their first album, and where Bowie (aka Davy Jones in those days), Bolan and Rod the Mod used to hang out, hoping to get their foot in the door of the London scene. We see clubs and pubs where amongst others Dylan, The Who and Georgie Fame strutted their early stuff. And we see the alley where many of the Beatles’ publicity photos were taken. Now it’s time for the women to take centre stage so as we walk along Carnaby Street you hear about Twiggy, Lulu, Dusty et al, before heading to where the Beatles performed on THAT rooftop.
