This walk has been inspired by the brilliant tour de force work “The Five”, the book about the lives and times of the five victims of the Whitechapel Murderer. You see a night shelter, a soup kitchen, the frontage of a public baths, a tenement, an arch, shops, pubs, a market and numerous streets which the women walked. The woman are also brought to life by the use of lots of great photographs of the time and place. The walk is crammed with social history about the lives of Victorian East End women in general and ‘the five’ in particular. Also covered is the famous Match Girl’s Strike which also took place in the East End in the same year as the murders.
